Around 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Police state they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then located numerous other vandalized cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report initial examinations show the substance was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; investigators are presently not informed of any harm in association with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to solve the case" and have requested to the residents for details.
A high-ranking representative commented the vandalism rendered him stunned and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on online, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a assailant targeting individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
